12 ‘rangers’ to be posted at NDCs to address community concerns-Dharamlall

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development will be adopting a policy which will see the placement of about 12 persons at each Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC).

“We would like people to be out as rangers in communities so that we will reduce the number of complaints in terms of quality of work and the number of complains in terms of quality of life and in this case, garbage collection, waste management, disposal – those kinds of things,” Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall, said on Wednesday.

He was at the time speaking at a ceremony where he handed over nine tractors and subventions amounting to some $80M to nine NDCs on the East Coast of Demerara.

The policy, according to Dharamlall, will ensure upgraded and enhanced services are provided in communities.

“…we expect that they are going to provide clerical, technical and operational support to each NDC so we wouldn’t have an issue whether NDCs are clamouring still for more staff or that they are unable to provide and upgrade services in our communities,” Dharamlall explained.

“We expect some of these people to work with you in those areas in terms of the management of the NDCs itself. Some persons will have specific type of experience or even training and we would like them to help you to manage your NDCs better,” he said.

The persons, Dharamlall said, will be part-time staff who are employed under the government part-time work programme.

They will also be from the respective NDC areas.
