The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has launched a Help Desk so that patients and their relatives can request information and assistance on an ongoing basis via telephone, email and a physical office.

“As Guyana’s main referral hospital and the country’s largest inpatient facility, thousands of persons visit the hospital daily and often require assistance navigating the campuses, getting support for relatives they may be visiting, or mediating interactions with the staff,” GPHC stated in a statement to the press.

GPHC said its management is also aware that most persons come to the hospital when they are at their most vulnerable state and often become frustrated when enduring lengthy and sometimes wearying processes.

Because of this, the GPHC Help Desk was conceptualised as a mechanism to facilitate timely and practical intervention for these persons by directly linking the provider to the patient.

The Help Desk has been initiated to assist patients in their treatment and help them reach out to different departments in a hassle-free manner to receive the same quality of service that is expect at the bedside. Now, any person can contact the Help Desk and trained frontline staff will ensure timely resolution of their grievances or escalation of their matter, and appropriate intervention.

The hospital’s CEO, Mr. Robbie Rambarran who is the brainchild of the initiative noted that “the Help Desk is another approach to ensure exceptional patient care is being delivered at the GPHC.

“No one should have to leave the hospital and resort to a social media post because they are disgruntled with the quality of service they received, but now have a way to escalate their concerns.”

The Help Desk is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and has an office in the hospital’s compound at its main entrance. Persons may contact the Help Desk directly on telephone number 226-6249 or via the hospital’s switchboard on 227-8210/41 or 227-8245, extension 1148, or via email at help@gphc.gov.gy or cell phone and WhatsApp on 701-GPHC (4742).
