Thirteen improvised weapons and two grammes of cannabis were among items smuggled into the Mazaruni Prison in Region Seven (Cuyuni- Mazaruni); the items were confiscated during a raid on Wednesday.
Police Headquarters reported that the search was conducted between 05:30 hrs and 10:30 hrs. The search focused on the brick prison, special watch and the new Mazaruni prison.
Other items found include: one cellular phone, three nails, four lighters, a bottle of fermented wine, one smoking utensil and 14 cigarettes.
The search team included 38 officers, including 12 ranks from the Bartica Police Station and 28 Prison Officers of the Mazaruni Prison.
