PPP/C just one area shy of finalising list of candidates for upcoming LGE
The People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) will next week finalise its list of candidates for the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGE), General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo said on Thursday.
During a press conference held at Freedom House, Georgetown, he revealed that the party has to finalise its list in one more municipality before it announces the candidates contesting in all Local Authority Areas on June 12.
He did not disclose what that municipality is but said that he will visit the area to finalise the list.
Not keen on disclosing the party’s candidates before the entire list is finalised, Jagdeo said the party is keen on striking a good balance of ethnicities and genders.
The party has also engaged its backers and said numerous business people are supporting the PPP/C bid to contest in all of the Local Authority Areas.
Even as Jagdeo spoke about his party’s readiness for the upcoming elections, he spoke about the ill-preparedness of the main political opposition- A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
“… we are just over a week from submitting our list of nominees for various local government bodies and the major opposition body has not made a decision on whether it will participate or not.
“This is the state of confusion that that party is in at that point of time,” Jagdeo told reporters.
