    Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) emerged as champions of Demerara in the National Under-19 Inter-Club 50-over tournament after defeating Transport Sports Club by 40 runs in the final on Tuesday at Bourda.

    Reduced to 40 overs per side, GCC posted a formidable score of 242-6 led by national youth player, Mavendra Dindyal.

    The stylish right-hander made a  majestic 145 in which he struck 10 fours and five sixes while  Krsna Singh supported with an unbeaten 20.

    Transport bowlers toiled for their wickets with just Shaquan Walters (2-24) and Riyad Latif (2-41) reaping the most success.

    In response, Transport reached 202 all out despite twin half-centuries from Alvin Mohabir (58) and Jeremiah Hohenkirk (53).

    Omari Lallbachan (3-44),  Rivaldo Phillips (3-54) and Singh (3-25) did the damage for the home side.

    The county champions thus far are GCC and East Bank Essequibo.

    Berbice will continue after the completion of the National Under-19 Inter-County Three-Day Tournament.

    On resumption, the remaining matches will commence with the Super-Stage which involves the top five teams, followed by the Play-off and then the Berbice Final.
