Two injured in bar brawl, suspect arrested

Two of three men who were involved in a brawl at the Caliente Bar and Restaurant at No. 78 public road, Upper Corentyne, Berbice, were severely injured and are hospitalised.

The third person, identified as 21-year-old Moahmed ‘Rana’ Fazar Ally of Crabwood Creek, is in Police custody after he reportedly confessed to stabbing the duo on Sunday.

Hopsitalised are Avinash Sumintra, 29, of No. 79 Village and Nazim Amroler, 17, of No.78 Village.

The News Room understands that at about 16:30 hrs on Sunday, the three men were at the bar when an argument ensued and then quickly turned physical. Ally and Amroler ventured out of the bar, both reportedly armed with knives, and waited for Sumintra to exit.

It is alleged that they confronted him and stabbed him several times in the abdomen, back and head. Reports indicate that one of the knives was left stuck to the man’s abdomen.

During the fracas, one of the suspects, Amroler, was stabbed in the face and neck.

Sumintra’s mother, Jennifer Sirkissoon, on Wednesday, told the News Room that the father of one was also beaten to the head.

She does not know what provoked the attack. “He was at work and then he go and cut he hair and then he go there [bar].”

Sumintra was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital due to the severity of his injury.

“I don’t know what transpire deh [at the bar] but he get stab wounds in he belly, he back and he head. He get a lash to he head; a fracture skull, stab in he back and he belly by two men. A juvenile and a man,” Jennifer related.

Sumintra is in the Intensive Care Unit, while Amroler is at the Skeldon Hospital.
