Cricket Carnival, more tourism pushes cyclist to expand accommodations venture

Guyana’s burgeoning Cricket Carnival and growing tourism industry has fuelled an expansion of local entrepreneurial ventures and cyclist and businessman, Enzo Matthews is capitalising on the opportunities presented.

Matthews is the owner of LeZo Logistics and Vacations, a company that started up about a decade ago focusing on logistics solutions, construction services and e-commerce.

Gradually, Matthews realised that more people craved vacation services, be it car and/or apartment rentals or chaperone services to hotspots here. So, he ventured into that too, adding the “Vacations” dimension to the LeZo brand.

And this has proven to be a smart, safe venture with an increased focus on pushing tourism as a sustainable industry in Guyana.

Matthews’ newest investment is a 10-room facility at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) that was launched earlier this year.

“There is so much happening on the East Bank, so I just thought not having something here would not be an ideal choice of mine,” the businessman told the News Room.

Aside from the shore bases and industrial complexes there, the venue is in close proximity to the Providence Stadium which is hosting Caribbean Premier League (CPL) matches, including the playoffs and finals for another two years.

He also has facilities at Atlantic Gardens, Atlantic Ville, and Stevedore. Each facility was designed and constructed by the LeZo team.

Importantly, the businessman said he has a goal different from many local accommodation providers; he isn’t focusing on support from foreigners at the expense of opportunities for locals.

In fact, he tries to focus more on providing affordable vacation packages to locals seeking luxury at home.

“We want to ensure that we can cater for everyone, locally and foreign,” he said but later added, “I would like to cater for Guyanese people more importantly.”

That means he is seeking to construct more facilities, even apartments for long-term use. He also wants to get into more state-funded procurement projects which will ultimately expand the business.
