Dominant Berbice romp to U19 Inter-County 50-Over title

A formidable Berbice Under-19 team produced an unbeaten run in the Inter-County 50-over tournament to lift the title on Sunday at the Enmore Community Centre ground.

Berbice regained the silverware in a dominant performance against the Guyana Cricket Board Select XI.

Reduced to 26 overs per side, Rampertab Ramnauth led the way with 90 off 79 balls backed up by a blazing 73* off just 29 balls from pacer Isai Thorne, as Berbice pilled on a  whopping 208-3 from 26 overs.

There was a wicket each for Ezekiel Wilson, Chanderpaul Ramraj, and Sachin Balgobin.

In response, GCB Select XI was restricted 91-6 with a top score from Marlon Ramsurace (24) and Lakeram Matura (20).

Leon Cecil, Salim Khan, Jonathan Rampersaud and Aron Rogers shared the wickets.

Over at the Everest Cricket Club, Essequibo slumped to 47 all out in 18.3 overs after a destructive spell of bowling from pacer Ronaldo Phillips, who too 5-7 from five overs.

Demerara then raced to 48-1 in 10.5overs with Lawrence Pellew making 20 as the former championships finished second.

Attention now turns to the Three-Day format from April 18, with Demerara battling Berbice at Everest and Essequibo up against Select XI from 10:00h.

Both tournaments are organised by the GCB and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
