Santa Rosa, Chase Academy through to semi-finals of Milo Schools Football

Region One’s Santa Rosa Secondary and the formidable force in Georgetown, Chase Academic Foundation, have booked their spots in the semi-finals of the Milo Schools Under-18 Football tournament after contrasting wins over the weekend at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The semi-finals are scheduled for April 19 from 17:00h and 19:00h at the aforementioned venue.

Santa Rosa, who is certainly among the favourites to lift the title, defeated East Ruimveldt 6-1 while Chase Academy edged Ann’s Grove 3-2.

A double by Darius Williams (58th, 90+2) along with goals from Keshan Campbell (12th), Troy Boyer (60th), Roy Vansluytman (86th), and Travis Jervis (88th) has secured a semi-final date with Carmel at 19:00h.

Daniel Sutton scored for East Ruimveldt in the 61st.

Chase, three-time champions, face McKenzie High from 17:00h, and they got through compliments of goals from Seon Cato (16th, 75th) and Neeaz Baksh (90th).

An own goal gave the East Coast unit the lead in the fourth minute, and again in the 35th from the feet of Barron Jerrick until a late resurgence for the city side.

Meanwhile, Carmel Secondary got the better of Bartica 4-3 via a hat-trick from Ian Daniel (8th, 61st, and the injury-time winner in extra time) and Shem James (4th).

Shawn Brown (17th), Ezekiel Baldeo (63rd), and Aston Dutchin (60th) scored for the Region Seven team who showed tremendous courage in the tournament.

In the clash of the two Region Ten teams, two-time defending champions, Christianburg Wismar Secondary, were ousted by McKenzie High in a battling contest than ended 1-0 with Azizi Grant’s strike in the 30th being the difference.

The top four teams will be rewarded with G$300,000, G$200,000, G$100,000 and G$75,000 respectively towards school projects.
