Taxi driver dead, passenger critical after car topples on the Soesdyke/Linden highway
A 48-year-old taxi driver was killed and another man was critically injured when the car in which they were crashed on the Haurauni Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway on Monday.
The dead man has been identified as Alvin Dubar, of Lot 5 Section B Sarah Johanna, East Bank Demerara.
The News Room was informed that around 16:00 hrs the vehicle (HDD 808), a Toyota Spacio, was seen speeding and then ran off the road and crashed.
As a result of the impact, Dubar was flung out of the vehicle and ended up on the parapet.
At the time, Dubar was transporting a male passenger whose identity remains unknown.
Dubar and the passenger were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Hospital where Dubar was pronounced dead.
The passenger was seen and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is admitted in a serious condition.
Investigations are ongoing.
