Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) through its Pepsi brand has strengthened its support for amateur boxing by providing substantial funding to the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) for their Under-16 programmes.

Seon Bristol, GBA’s Assistant Secretary/Treasurer revealed that DDL has been in support since 2011 and numerous talents have emerged from the Under-16 programme.

He charged other members of corporate Guyana to fuel other success stories in boxing.

The Jackman sisters, Abiola and Alesha, the first two female boxers from Guyana to attain a ranking by the International Boxing Association, were present at the simple handing-over ceremony on Wednesday at DDL’s Great Diamond, East Bank, Headquarters and spoke glowing of how the numerous tournaments gave them the launch pad, and many others, to display their talent.

Schemel Patrick, Brand Communications Manager, expressed it is “people and partnerships who drive successful ventures” and congratulated GBA for its success over the years as the programmes align with the goal of DDL to advance youth through education and sport.

The sponsorship is in excess of G$1M. Last year, the GBA hosted 16 Mike Paris/Pepsi U-16 tournaments.
