Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, on Wednesday, revealed that the Guyana Police Force will use “all legal avenues available” to ensure that the prime suspects – a husband and wife – in the murder of 26-year-old Police Constable, Quincy Lewis, are extradited to Guyana to face the full brunt of the law.

After being reported missing for almost three years, Lewis’ skeletal remains were discovered on Wednesday at the Madewini Sandpit area, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, Police Headquarters confirmed in a statement.

The Cold Case Unit, led by its newly appointed head, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nigel Stephen and ranks of the Major Crimes Unit, made a breakthrough in the investigation following the arrest of two men.

These two men, the News Room was reliably informed, told detectives that Lewis was shot to death by the husband of the woman he was having an affair with.

The suspects also took the Police ranks to the location where Lewis’ body was buried and after hours of searching on Wednesday, the remains were recovered.

According to the Police, the suspects were shown certain evidence, after which they decided to cooperate with the investigators.

“The Guyana Police Force will seek to send samples of the human skeletal remains unearthed today with the assistance of the suspect who remains in custody, for DNA testing,” Police Headquarters noted.

The News Room earlier reported that Lewis was lured to the East Bank Demerara home of the husband and wife where he was murdered. It is further alleged that the couple then transported Lewis’ body and dumped it on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway.

The News Room has since confirmed that the woman and her husband have since fled the jurisdiction via illegal means.

Lewis was attached to the Agricola Police Station on the East Bank of Demerara and left his home on June 19, 2020, for work but he never showed up. A missing person’s report was filed seven days following his disappearance.

Meanwhile, Blanhum commended the Cold Case Unit and the Police ranks who he said worked “tirelessly” to solve the case.

“I wish to conclude by once again recognising each and every investigator involved in this matter since it’s their hard work, perseverance and diligence that ultimately led to the breakthrough in solving this case and locating the remains of the deceased,” the Crime Chief said in a statement.

  1. My hat goes out to the team of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Guyana Police Force who worked so tirelessly to crack the case of Mr… Quincy Lewis. A better job could not be done. Anyone who works under the tutelage of Mr Blanhum, Crime Chief would be as professional as he is. Do keep up the good work. I do hope that the perpetrators would eventually be brought to justice so that there could be some closure to the case.
