Two arrested after caught with ‘ganja’

Police in Region One (Barima-Waini) on Wednesday arrested two men who were reportedly caught with 1,114 grams (2.4 lbs) of marijuana during a roadblock in the vicinity of Falls Top Village, North West District.

An Assistant Superintendent along with a Detective Inspector, a Detective Sergeant and three other ranks were on patrol duty when they intercepted a Black Toyota Fielder Wagon (#PYY-7254).

Police Headquarters reported that Roy Chan, a 39-year-old of Port Kaituma, threw a bulky parcel out of the vehicle; as a result, one of the Police ranks picked up the parcel and discovered the illegal substance.

According to the Police report, a search was conducted on the driver, Levon Lynch, and a .32 Taurus Pistol with one magazine containing six rounds of ammunition were found. The Police said he produced a license for the firearm.

Lynch and Chan were arrested and escorted to the Port Kaituma Police Station; they remain in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
