Man, 63, dies after driver crashes into parked truck

An accident on the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Thursday morning resulted in the death of 63-year-old Takurand Seemangal, a resident of Lot 157 Thomas Street, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters reported that Seemangal was a passenger in motor van GGG 6387 when the driver, 38-year-old Wilfred Sanasie of Shell Road, Kitty, crashed into a parked truck at around 06:10 hrs.

According to the Police, the now-dead man was the owner of the van; efforts are being made to verify the name and address of the owner of the parked truck GLL 3694.

The Police reported that Sanasie was proceeding east along the northern driving lane of the road when the left-side front portion of the van collided with the right-side rear of the parked truck which was stationary on the northern side of the road facing east.

Sanasie and Seemangal were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Seemangal was pronounced dead while Sanasie is admitted as a patient suffering from head injuries.

The body is presently lying at the GPHC’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
