Over 80 local companies to participate in roundtable discussion with Indian Foreign Minister

As Guyana and India hope to deepen relations, dozens of local companies are expected to participate in a roundtable discussion with India’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Subramanyam Jaishankar on Saturday.

“…We [are] planning a business event, a business round table event where we are expecting over 80 Guyanese top companies to participate. These meetings will underline the growing interest on both sides for stronger trade and investment ties,” Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, Dr K.J Srinivasa told a news conference on Wednesday.

He said Jaishankar will be accompanied by a business delegation from India which will be led by the Configuration of Indian Investors.

India has expressed interest in a number of sectors in Guyana including agriculture, renewable energy and technology and innovation.

And according to Dr. Srinivasa, the India External Affairs Minister is expected to engage the local participating businesses on a range of “important” issues during the discussion.

Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Guyana on Friday evening for a three-day visit.

During this period, the two countries are expected to sign a number of agreements.

Jaishankar will also be meeting with a number of Government Ministers including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd and is expected to visit key agencies such as the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) and the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB).
