Over the years, local food and beverage manufacturer, Banks DIH Limited has revolutionised the industry, and the company’s Operations and Engineering Director, Gavin Todd on Friday said their acquisition of the ‘Made in Guyana’ certificate is a validation of their standards and goals.

In fact, he said it will create jobs locally and is also expected to stem the flow of young people travelling overseas.

“This ‘Made in Guyana’ brand mark will do well for Guyana, all of Guyana…Think about how much growth is stimulated internally. Competition is good but is even better amongst us Guyanese. It will create jobs for young people and will help to build our nation. Imbedded is the potential for growth and quality improvement,” Todd said.

He was at the time delivering remarks at the handing over ceremony of the ‘Made in Guyana’ seal by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) at the company’s Thirst Park location on Friday.

The certification will see products produced by Banks DIH Limited outfitted with the ‘Made in Guyana’ seal.

Banks DIH Limited is the producers of wines, bread, beer, ice cream, snacks and water.

Executive Director of the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA), Nizam Hassan said, over the years, the manufacturing sector has been expanding and there has been further development of small manufacturing enterprises.

“As our economy continues to evolve and as consumers become more resounding about products they consume and as the marketplace becomes more competitive, certification of products becomes imperative,” Hassan said.

“Consumers need to be assured that the products they are buying have met the standards set up by regulatory bodies,” he added.

At the same time, Hassan said consumer education is equally important.

The ‘Made in Guyana’ seal aims to promote recognition of Guyanese local content on international markets and become synonymous with quality. It was launched in October 2021.
