Harlem man, 53, dies in three-vehicle accident

A 53-year-old man lost his life on Friday afternoon after he was involved in a three-vehicle accident along the La Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).

Dead is Vickram Persaud of Harlem, WCD.  The accident occurred around 16:40 hrs.

At the time, Persaud was the driver of motorcar, PNN 8879.

The News Room understands that Persaud was parked and then later drove onto the public road without observing the traffic.

As a result, the front portion of his car collided with motor lorry, GAD 1723 driven by Deoram Tiwarie, 39 of Cove and John, East Coast Demerara.

Due to the impact, Persaud’s car spun in a clockwise direction and collided with the front portion of minibus, BYY 7195, driven by Rajesh Dhaniram, 51 of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.

The minibus was heading north along the western side of the road. Persaud and Tiwarie sustained injuries.

While Persaud was pronounced dead at the scene, Tiwarie was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and was admitted with a fracture right leg.

Persaud’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
