A string of half-centuries from Theddeus Lovell, Myhiem Khan and Shaaid Vieira led Essequibo Under-19 to a come-from-behind five-wicket victory over the Guyana Cricket Board Select XI in the opening round of the Under-19 Three-Day Inter-County competition at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda, on Thursday.

For his 11 wickets in the game, Essequibo skipper Aryan Persaud was named Man-of-the-Match

Starting the final day 70-1 and in need of 162 more for victory, Essequibo produced a team effort with the bat to join Berbice as first round winners.

Khan only added four to his overnight score of 46, while Vieira pressed on from 19 to an even half-century from 144 balls. The pair added 89 for the second wicket.

Ronaldo Schouten (22 from 64 balls) had a patient knock until skipper Aryan Persaud (28* from 90 balls) and Lovell with a compact 67 (4x4s; 3x6s) from 96 balls took Essequibo over the line.

Essequibo skipper Aryan Persaud bagged match-figures of 11-122 from 50.4 overs with his left-arm spin and copped the Man-of-the-Match award.

The second round will be played from April 22 with Berbice playing Essequibo at Everest and Demerara facing the GCB Select XI at Enmore. Matches start at 10:00h on each day.
