Joel Primo, a 27-year-old minibus driver, is receiving critical care at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was injured in a Saturday morning accident at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

According to Police Headquarters, Primo was driving a grey minibus (#BAC 6836) south along the eastern side of the public road at a fast rate at around 03:20 hrs when he lost control and collided into the steel rail on the eastern parapet of the road.

The bus then flipped several times before colliding into a wooden post.

As a result, Primo and 28-year-old passenger Cynthia DeFretas sustained injuries.

Both persons were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.

DeFretas was admitted as a patient suffering from pain to her back and legs, while Primo was admitted in the hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with injuries to his head and other parts of the body.

Both of their conditions are listed as stable. The Police investigation is ongoing.
