Police in  Region  Two are investigating a ‘hit and run’  accident, which led to the death of Mahendra Kissoon, a 46-year-old of Lot ‘K’ Land of Plenty Public Road, Essequibo Coast.

The accident occurred at about 19:10 hrs on Saturday and involved a truck #GLL 5654, owned by Golden Fleece Investment and was being driven at the time by Parasram Wellington.

Police Headquarters reported that Kissoon and his granddaughter went to purchase hotdogs a short distance away from their home when the speeding truck driver struck the victim.

As a result, Kissoon was flung into the air and then landed on the road.

The driver sped away, leaving the victim bleeding on the roadway. Kissoon’s granddaughter ran home and informed family members, who ventured to the scene and rushed him to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.

Kissoon’s body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.

The lorry driver was arrested on Sunday and the lorry was lodged at the Anna Regina Police Station.

Wellington is expected to be charged on Tuesday.

My sympathy goes out to the grieving Kissoon family on the loss of their loved one. Was he an animal that he had to be treated in that manner and left to die – even an animal sometimes gets better treatment. I am happy that the perpetrator has been arrested and I do hope that proper justice would be served.
