A 23-year-old security guard was Tuesday remanded to prison for fatally stabbing his 31-year-old girlfriend, Lisa George, at their home in ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown last Tuesday.

Meshack Douglas appeared before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court but was not required to plead to the capital offence of murder.

He was remanded to prison until May 29, 2023. The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant Visram Ramjattan.

According to reports, the couple had been dating for four months before Douglas moved into George’s home with her two children aged 6 and 12.

Reports are that their relationship was plagued with domestic abuse and frequent arguments.

On the day in question, April 26, the victim’s 12-year-old son was awakened by the screams from his mother, who saw Douglas stabbing her with a knife several times.

An alarm was raised, and other family members managed to wrestle the knife away from Douglas.

George was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination revealed that she was stabbed 25 times.

George’s sister, Lavern George, had told the News Room that Douglas had tried to hurt himself in the past and had even threatened the victim by telling her that he had a gun buried and could use it.
