Guyana’s premier left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul continues to etch his name into the annals of history as he has now taken over 600 wickets in First-Class cricket.

Playing for Team Weeks in the ongoing Headley-Weeks Four-Day Tri-Series, organized by Cricket West Indies, Permaul bagged 3-16 to move his tally to 602 wickets in his 136th match.

The 33-year-old along with left-arm seamer Dominic Drakes (3-17) helped to bundle Team Headley for 177 on day one at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua, on Wednesday.

Kavem Hodge was the bright spot for Team Headley as he put up tough resistance with a fighting half-century.

Hodge’s knock of 67 came off 151 deliveries and included 10 fours, and had support from Akeem Jordan (37) and Kieran Powell (23).

In response, Team Weeks reached 61-3 with fighting knocks from Raymon Reifer (34 from 61 balls) and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (12 from 60 balls).

Chanderpaul and Reifer looked to steady the ship but fell two short of a 50-run partnership as both fell to off-spinner Chaim Holder who has  2-2 in 3 overs.

Play resumes Thursday from 10:00h.
