Father of three dies in Success accident

A 26-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Thursday morning after he was allegedly involved in an accident with a truck along the Success Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is Keyon Marshall, a father of three and a porter attached to the MMC Security Service and of Republic Park, Beterverwagting, ECD.

Reports are that the accident occurred around 08:50hrs while Marshall was heading home.

The driver of the truck (GAD 2985) was identified as Mark Bagot, a 42-year-old Mechanic of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.

According to the Police, Bagot claimed that he exited the compound of NABI Construction Incorporated and as he turned onto the public road, the truck encountered a mechanical problem causing it to cut off.

The truck driver further claimed that he put on the hazard lights and exited the vehicle to go into the company’s compound to get another truck to tow him.

However, before he could do so, Marshall, who was on a motorcycle (CK 6014) and another motorcyclist were speeding down the road when Marshall rode into the truck. The Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Marshall sustained serious head injuries and died at the scene.

Residents told the News Room that they heard a loud impact and upon checking, they noticed Marshall’s body lying on the road in a pool of blood.

Meanwhile, in an interview with the News Room, the dead man’s mother, Hermina Marshall said she last saw him on Wednesday morning.

“I see meh son this morning and I tell he tomorrow is meh birthday and this is wah the man (driver) do. Lick meh son down,” the inconsolable woman said.

“I hear he [Marshall] just lay down pun the road like if he ain’t got anybody and he got people to represent he,” Hermina noted.

She is demanding justice.

“I just want justice fah meh son…he dead and left three children,” she cried.

The News Room understands that the truck driver is presently in Police custody assisting with the investigation.

    My deepest sympathy goes out to the Marshall family. How horrendous. What bothers me is the way Mr. Marshall died to boot on his mother’s birth anniversary. How could I console that poor woman. Mere words mean nothing to her at this point in time. I also grieve for his three children and hope that proper systems would be put in place for their upkeep and that justice would be served.
