Woman, 39, dies in Good Hope accident

A 39-year-old woman died on Friday after she was struck down by a speeding car on the Good Hope Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

Dead is Sursattie Prasad, a resident of Tuschen, EBE.

The News Room was informed that 27-year-old Ryan Boodhoo of Tuschen, was driving PMM 3473 east along the northern lane at a fast rate when he reportedly swerved to avoid colliding with motor van, GAC 4554.

In the process, the left front of the car collided with Prasad, who was flung into the air and then into a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) light pole. The car ended up in a nearby trench.

Prasad was picked up in an unconscious condition and transported to the Leonora Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her body is at the Ezekiel Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination Police have obtained CCTV footage of the accident.

The News Room understands that the van was being driven by a Chinese national of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara. The accident occurred around 11.20 hrs.

Both drivers are currently in Police custody assisting with the investigation.

A breathalyser test revealed that Boodhoo had some level of alcohol in his system at the time of the accident.

However, no trace of alcohol was detected on the driver of the van.
