Two seriously injured in Uitvlugt accident

A motorcyclist and a pillion rider are nursing serious injuries after they were involved in an accident on the Uitvlugt Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Sunday morning.

They have been identified as Jamarr Levans, 21 of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo and Kayle Livan, 17 of Cornelia Ida, WCD.

The accident occurred around 04:25hrs. At the time, Levans was the rider of a motorcycle while Livan was the pillion rider.

Police Headquarters reported that minibus, PTT 6561 was heading east along the northern side of the road while the motorcycle was speeding in the same direction.

It alleged that as the minibus driver, Lall Lekram, a 47-year-old resident of Zeeburg, changed direction to head south, the motorcycle collided with the right rear wheel of the minibus.

As a result, Levans and Livan sustained injuries about their bodies and fell onto the road.

They were transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital by public spirited persons where they were later transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Police said both victims were admitted to the hospital with head injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
