Chennai Super Kings solidified their position at number two on the IPL table, beating bottom-placed Delhi Capitals by 27 runs in Match 55 in Chennai on Wednesday.

Chennai put up 167-8 with Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni all getting into the 20s, as Mitchell Marsh took 3-18 and Axar Patel 2-27.

Capitals, in reply, responded with 140-8 with Rilee Rossouw making 35 and Manish Pandey 27. Matheesha Pathirana was again impressive, taking 3-37, while Deepak Chahar picked up 2-28.

With the defeat, their seventh in 11 games, Capitals remain bottom of the table, while Super Kings’ seventh victory in 12 matches have further enhanced their chances of a playoff spot.

IPL action continues on Thursday with Kolkata Knight Riders against Rajasthan Royals from 10:00h at Eden Gardens.
