The much-anticipated ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Schools football competition has been hit by inclement weather.

The tournament, featuring a total of 42 teams across the two divisions, was slated to commence on Saturday at the NIS ground on Carifesta Avenue in Georgetown.

However, heavy rainfall in the city on Thursday forced the Petra Organisation to shift the tournament by a week.

The competition will now start on May 20 at the same venue. At stake for the victors in the two categories are the championship trophies along with $300,000 towards a school project.

The runners-up of both divisions will receive $150,000, third $75,000 and fourth $50,000, all for a school initiative, along with the respective trophy.

The young footballers of Charlestown Secondary will put their titles on the line after they copped the elusive double last year.

Sanctioned by the Guyana Football Federation, the tournament has received support from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Demerara Distillers Limited, Guyana Shore Base Inc. and MVP Sports.
