A Belle West, Canal No.2, West Bank Demerara family has been left traumatized after they were awakened and robbed by three bandits in the wee hours of Tuesday.

According to information provided to the News Room, one of the suspects had been living with the family for the past two months. When they asked him to leave, he initially refused but eventually left Monday night at about 23:00hrs.

He returned hours later, at about 03:00hrs Tuesday with the other two suspects and robbed the family.

Even though they were wearing masks and armed with a gun and cutlasses, the family said they recognised him as one of the suspects. The men escaped with $60,000 cash and a gold chain with a pair of gold earrings.

“They came in and ransacked the house and throw down everything,” 20-year-old Tanisha Solomon told the News Room. Solomon along with her mother, Guynard Trotman, her eight-month-old baby and four other relatives live in the house.

Solomon explained that the bandits threatened them and told them to leave the house or else they will kill them.

“They threatened us and said move out or they will come back again.

“We are afraid to leave our house,” Solomon said.
Solomon recalled that they were awakened by the men attempting to break into the house and called the Police right away.

“They [the Police] never showed up till about five something this morning,” the young mother claimed.

The suspects are said to be living in the area, so Solomon said they took the Police there and one of the suspects was arrested.

Another suspect was seen jumping the fence and escaping when the cops arrived.

However, when contacted by the News Room, Regional Commander Mahendra Siwnarine said three persons are in custody but investigators so far “has not been able to tie them to the robbery.”
