Wismar man busted with marijuana at roadblock

Twenty-nine-year-old Kester Gikes was nabbed by the Police on Tuesday outside the Sherima police station with 1019 grams of marijuana which he allegedly had in a haversack.

Police Headquarters reported that Gikes, of Blue Berry Bill, Wismar, Linden was an occupant of motor lorry, GXX 340, when ranks on duty outside the police station stopped the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and ranks searched Gikes and the driver, who has been identified as Gladwyn King, 44, of Sophia

In the haversack, Police said they found two transparent bulky parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Gikes was told of the offence committed and reportedly claimed ownership of the suspected cannabis.

He was escorted to the Bartica Police Station, where the marijuana was weighted in his presence and amounted to 1019 grammes, Police said.

Gikes remains in police custody, pending charges.
