Days after he was arrested, Shadwin Semple was on Thursday charged with the murders of Johnson Bowen, 87, and Manuel Dos Santos, 58, who were fatally shot during a home invasion in Linden on Saturday last.

Semple appeared before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He was charged with murder in the course of a robbery, contrary to Section 100 1 (c) (i) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

The murders occurred on Saturday, May 13. Semple was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison until June 8, 2023, when the case will be called again for disclosure of statement at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.

Semple was among two suspects who were in custody for the murders. He was charged based on legal advice obtained by the Police on Wednesday.

The other suspect in custody is Troy Bruce called “Blacka” who surrendered to the Police on Tuesday, one day after wanted bulletins were issued for him and John Ross called “JR”. Ross is yet to be apprehended.

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum had previously told the News Room that several other persons, including principal offenders, are being pursued.

Bowen and Dos Santos, both of Block 22, Wismar, Linden were shot dead after they tried to fend off three masked gunmen, who invaded their home at around 04:00 hrs. Two of the bandits were armed with guns.

Another suspect, Anthony Dennis was found dead in a house one day after the incident where other suspects were hiding in Linden. He was reportedly chopped several times by the victims during the home invasion.

It was then that the bandits shot at the victims, killing two of them and injuring 20-year-old Denzil Roberts who went over to the house to help his relatives.

The News Room understands that Roberts remains in a critical condition with three gunshot wounds.
