Firefighters are currently battling to control a fire at the female dormitory of the Mahdia Secondary school in Region Eight.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but the News Room was reliably informed that some six persons are confirmed dead and many others are unaccounted for.
Several others are said to be trapped inside the building.
The News Room understands that the fire started just about 23:40 hrs on Sunday. A number of officials from the region are also at the scene.
The school houses girls from Mahdia, Campbelltown, Micobie, El Paso and several other villages in the North Pakaraimas in Region 8.
Details are still emerging and the News Room will provide more information in a subsequent report.
