An Accident at about 23:55 hrs Monday night at Melanie Public Road, East Coast Demerara has claimed the life of Chief Prison Oceffir, 36-year-old Patrick Perry.

He was based at Prison Headquarters in Georgetown and resided at Victoria Road Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

A statement from Police Headquarters noted that Perry was proceeding west along the southern side of Melanie Public Road at a fast rate and lost control of the vehicle (PAC 6465) while negotiating a left bend on the road.

As a result, the vehicle collided with a heap of sand which was on the southern parapet and toppled several times.

Perry was flung out of the vehicle and landed on the road surface, where he received injuries on his body.

He was seen and examined by the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) at Melanie, where he was pronounced dead. His body was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Sergeant Stewart and a party of Police ranks, as well as the Acting Director of Prison Mr Nicklon Elliot, visited the scene at about 00:10 hours this morning.
