Chanderpaul hits 83* as West Indies ‘A’ set Bangladesh ‘A’ 461 for victory


Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored his second half-century of the match that allowed West Indies ‘A’ to declare and set Bangladesh ‘A’ a stiff target of 461 to level the three-match Four-Day ‘Test’ series in Sylhet.
By stumps on day three, Bangladesh ‘A’ were 47-0, facing the improbable task of scoring 414 runs on the final day to square the series.

Bangladesh ‘A’ started the day on a shaky 157-7 in response to West Indies ‘A’ first innings 445, and the home side was dismissed for 205 with left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul taking 3-38.
Nasum Ahmed (38*), Saif Hassan (32), Zakir Hasan (29) and Nurul Hasan (28) were the main scorers.
West Indies ‘A’, batting a second time with a lead of 240, piled on the runs as Chanderpaul forged several crucial partnerships that facilitated a declaration at 220-5.
When the declaration came, Chanderpaul was unbeaten on 83 off 166 balls (7x4s, 1×6), his third such identical score in the series. It was also the 27-year-old’s 17th fifty in his 64th First-Class game.
Skipper Joshua Da Silva made 47 and Tevin Imlach an unbeaten 28.
Saif Hasan (3-62) and Nasum Ahmed (2-56) were the wicket-takers for Bangladesh ‘A’.
