See below full statement from Guyana Police Force (GPF):
Subsequent to reports of the daring daylight prison break during which notorious prisoner Royden Williams, aka Royden Durant or “Smallie” from Mazaruni Prison escaped, members of the Joint Services immediately launched a manhunt and activated an action plan to recapture and arrest the escapee and his two accomplices namely, Neon Howard aka “Taxi” and Odel Roberts aka “Gulley Side”.
The Joint Services ranks were eventually able to set up a dragnet within the 33 Miles, Potaro Road, Bartica area while they remained in pursuit.
As a consequence, during the said operation, on Thursday, the 1st June, 2023, during the morning period, Royden Williams and his accomplice, Odel Roberts, were intercepted by a team of highly trained members of the Joint Services and a confrontation ensued during which both Royden Willians and his accomplice Odel Roberts were fatally shot. Fortunately, none of the ranks were injured during the operation.
Investigators retrieved from the men a M70 rifle and 79 rounds of live ammunition.
The following articles were also recovered in a bucket beside the bodies of
Williams and Roberts by detectives:
1. One red shirt
2. One black trouser
3. One grey T shirt
4. One yellow flower shirt
5. One yellow long sleeve Jersey
6. One black T shirt
7. One black belt
8. One silver blade knife
9. 3 Amoxcillin tablets
10. Three small batteries
11. One toothbrush
12. Three clothes pins, and
13. One condom
Thereafter, the bodies of Williams and Roberts were escorted out of the area to the mortuary in Georgetown, awaiting post mortem examination.
The Joint Services wish to thank all those individuals who provided invaluable support during the search for the escapee Williams and his two accomplices Howard and Roberts.
