‘Smallie’, accomplice shot dead – Crime Chief confirms

Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum moments ago officially confirmed that notorious convicted mass murderer and prison escapee, Mark Royden Williams and one of his accomplices were shot dead on Thursday by ranks of the Joint Services.

The Crime Chief said that the shooting incident occurred during a “confrontation” at 33 Miles Bartica, Potaro.

The News Room had first reported that Williams was killed after the ranks cornered him. The identity of the accomplice is not yet known.

Williams called ‘Smallie’, in a daring daylight ordeal and assisted by men with high-powered weapons, escaped from the Mazaruni Prison on May 19. This is the country’s maximum security penitentiary.

A day later, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) announced a $10 million reward for any information that can lead to Williams’ arrest. Just a week ago, six persons were remanded to prison after they were charged with aiding Williams to escape from the penitentiary.
