Four granted bail for allegedly stabbing, chopping Martyrsville man

Four persons, including two teenagers, were placed on $150,000 bail each on Friday after they denied stabbing and chopping a Martyrsville, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man while liming at a bar more than two weeks ago.

They are Avinash Mahabal called ‘Ball’, 24 of Triumph, ECD; Dhanraj Ramlochan called ‘Tyron’, 19; Suruj Ramlochan called ‘Leon’, 19 and Lakeram Ramlochan called ‘Troy’, all of Martyrsville, ECD.

The quartet appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court. Police Headquarters said they pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on May 14, 2023, they unlawfully wounded 28-year-old Sudesh Motie.

The incident occurred between 21:00 hrs and 21:30 hrs at 592 Bar located at Second Street, Mon Repos. The suspects were only arrested on May 31.

The matter was adjourned to August 8, 2023.

Police Headquarters reported that Motie and a colleague were liming at the bar when Motie was allegedly attacked by one of the suspects, who began to pelt him with bricks.

The situation escalated when Motie was approached by one of the suspects, who allegedly stabbed him in the right shoulder and cut him on his right hand while another suspect chopped him in the back of the neck.

Another suspect allegedly joined and chopped Motie in his right hand. The victim managed to escape his attackers, who then turned their attention to his colleague and pounced on him.

They then escaped. Motie was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital with the assistance of his sister, where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
