ExxonMobil U-14 Schools Football: QF spots at stake as Bartica, Mackenzie collide

Quarter-final spots in the Boys category will be up for grabs when the ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 School Football tournament continues at the National Insurance Scheme Ground, Carifesta Avenue, on Saturday from noon.

The boys will be conscious that a loss on Saturday would mean elimination, but the remaining eight would move on to play for positions one to eight.

The girls have already reached their ‘final eight’ stage and will commence action on June 10.

Bartica Secondary, who have qualified in both categories, will see their unbeaten male team face the formidable Mackenzie High School from 13:00h.

Region One’s Waramuri Top Primary, who has impressed, will face the lads from Fort Wellington, who are yet to taste defeat, from 14:00h.

Teams who qualify for the quarter-finals will be given uniforms.

The cash prizes, which go towards school grants, are G$300,000 (first), G$150,000 (second), G$70,000 (third) and G$50,000 (fourth), along with individual accolades.

Last year, Charlestown Secondary School created history by winning both the Boys and Girls’ categories, but this year, they will only be able to possibly repeat as Girls’ champions after not progressing from the Boys’ group stage.
