Terry La Cruz, a 26-year-old resident of Aruka, North West District, Region One (Barima- Waini) is missing after he reportedly crashed into his father’s boat late Sunday night in the Aruka River.
His father, 45-year-old Percy Thomas, told Police he was heading home from church with his wife (Monica La Cruz, 43) and his two daughters (aged 16 and 17) at about 21:20 hrs when he heard a boat heading in his direction.
He said he flashed his torchlight to indicate his position in the river but the boat, belonging to his son, continued in his direction and subsequently crashed into the right side of his boat.
Thomas said after stabilizing his boat, which began to drift, he flashed his light and it was then he realised that the boat belonged to his son. He said he tried to find him but was unable to.
An alarm was raised and persons in the area responded with boats and they began to comb the river in search for La Cruz but to no avail.
A report was later made at Mabaruma Police Station and a search is in progress as investigations continue.
