Man remanded for allegedly snatching woman’s cellphone

A man appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday charged with the theft of a Samsung Galaxy A03 cellphone valued at $68,000.

Robert Lewis appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on June 5, 2023, at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, he stole the phone from Shenice Forinha.

He was remanded to prison until July 12.

The court heard that the complainant was sitting in the back seat of a car with the windows down when the driver stopped at Cornhill Street.

It is alleged that Lewis pushed his hands through the window and snatched the woman’s two cell phones; he then escaped south through the street.

Shortly after, Forinha saw a Police Officer holding unto the accused and she informed him of the incident.

A search was conducted on Lewis and one of the phones was recovered in the pocket of his pants pocket. The accused was told of the allegation, cautioned, arrested, and taken to the Brickdam Police Station.
