Siblings burnt to death as fire rips through Mahaica house

Two children who were trapped in a house at Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara when it was gutted by fire Wednesday have died.

Their identities are not yet known but the News Room was able to confirm their ages to be 3 and 9.

Residents recalled that the fire started sometime around 13:00hrs. At the time, the children were reportedly home alone.

Their mother had gone to run an errand.

The children were reportedly heard screaming. However, by the time persons could get to them, the fire had already engulfed the building.

Efforts to rescue them were futile.

    Oh,what a tragedy for that poor mother and other relatives. What more can I say. My sympathy goes out to the entire family. Were these children playing with matches at the time. I wonder. May their little souls rest in peace
