The body of 28-year-old miner from Goshen Village, Bartica, Essequibo River, was on Sunday found beneath a heap of loam at a mining site.
Dead is Oniel Richardson. The Guyana Police Force on Monday reported that at about 14:00 hrs at Quartzstone Backdam, Cuyuni River, the man’s body was found by his cousin and another person.
Police are still investigating the matter but thus far, it was revealed that Richardson, who is self-employed, was operating his detector in search for gold.
After he didn’t return, a search was launched but only his detector was seen partially buried beneath the loam.
Suspecting the worst, the pair began digging and later found Richardson’s motionless body.
The body was removed and the Police were notified.
The man’s body will be sent to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Parlour for storage and the Post Mortem Examination is expected to be conducted.
