Rice farmer killed during argument with labourer 


An 18-year-old labourer has been arrested after he stabbed a 25-year-old rice farmer during an argument.

Dead is Pursoram Ganpat, 25, of 169 Well Rank Dam, No.57 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

The suspect has been identified as Kevin Somrah, of 101 Queenstown, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice.

The News Room understands that was informed that the incident occurred at about 02:30 hrs Monday at Queenstown, Corriverton.

Police sources confirmed that the two men were drinking when a heated argument erupted and led to a scuffle. During the scuffle, the suspect reportedly armed himself with a knife and dealt Ganpat several stabs about his body.

Ganpat was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
