UPDATE: Soldier shot 27 rounds from AK-47 killing colleague during argument
Private Tevon Daymon was shot and killed Monday morning moments after he reportedly hit his colleague with a gun and ran away.
That colleague, using his AK-47 rifle, discharged 27 rounds in Daymon’s direction, fatally wounding him.
A post mortem examination will confirm how many times 24-year-old Daymon was shot in the unfortunate incident that took place at Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Base Camp Stephenson on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Both Daymon and 25-year-old Brian Morrison, who was identified as the shooter, were attached and serving in the 21 Artillery Company.
Daymon of Block X Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara and Morrison were involved in an argument while on guard duties.
A statement from Police Headquarters noted that Daymon allegedly removed the magazine from the rifle he was carrying and hit Morrison to his head and ran away.
Morrison who was armed with an AK rifle and 30 matching rounds, discharged 27 rounds from his rifle in Daymon’s direction. He was hit multiple times and immediately collapsed to the ground.
Police said Daymon was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Wilson at 07.09 hrs. That’s just over two hours after the incident occurred.
The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Morrison is in the custody of the Guyana Police Force assisting with instigations.
