Odingo Smith, who is accused of snatching a woman’s gold chain at King Street, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s on Friday, charged with larceny.

Smith appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, where it is alleged that he stole the item, property of Allana Kissoon, on June 14.

The court heard that the one penny-weight gold chain was valued at $65,000.

The court was told that Kissoon was walking on King Street when she saw Smith running towards her and as he got closer, he pulled the chain from her neck and continued running.

The woman raised an alarm and persons gave chase; Smith was subsequently apprehended by public-spirited persons and was taken to the Brickdam Police Station.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $80,000. The case was adjourned to July 21, 2023.
