Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall has requested to proceed on administrative leave to allow for any probe into serious allegations of sexual exploitation and rape.

When contacted, President Dr Irfaan Ali confirmed to the News Room that Dharamall requested to proceed on leave yesterday and he (President Ali) agreed.

Dharamlall’s request is in light of the allegations posted on social media last week and the News Room understands that he has since denied them but wants the authorities to thoroughly examine the facts of the claims being made by a 16-year-old girl.

On Friday, President Ali told the News Room that he has zero tolerance for anyone accused of or displaying such behaviour.

The Head of State also promised a thorough probe once an official complaint is made.

“As a government, we are committed to having any facts fully investigated as we hold dearly our girls and women in every community. And we will continue to do everything to ensure their safety and well-being,” President Ali had said.
