Motorcyclist dies in Vigilance accident, drunk driver arrested

Police have arrested a 22-year-old car driver who crashed into a motorcyclist, killing him at Vigilance, Railway Embankment on the East Coast of Demerara on Saturday night.

Dead is 25-year-old Oliver Collins of Friendship, East Coast Demerara.

Police Headquarters reported that the driver of the car PAE 137 was proceeding east on the northern lane while Collins was heading in the opposite direction.

It is alleged that the speeding driver drove into the path of Collins and crashed head on into hun.

Collins pitched off his motorcycle and received severe injuries. He was picked up by the Police in an unconscious state and escorted to Georgetown Public Hospital  Corporation where he succumbed to to his injuries while receiving  treatment. The body is presently at Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar which found his alcohol level to be 121% and 112%. He has been detained pending further investigations and charges.
