Guyana’s highest-ranked male Table Tennis player, Shemar Britton, has qualified for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Britton qualified via the Pan American Games Special Qualification Singles competition in Lima, Peru, on Saturday.

He lost to Julian Ramos of Columbia in some keenly contested matches by the margin of 4-2.

Britton bounced back in round two of knockouts by defeating DeAndre Calderon of St Lucia 4-1 to advance to the qualifying match.

He again faced Ramos, who took him to the brink, requiring a match point at 10-9 in the seventh set.

Britton prevailed with a forehand loop in the backhand of Ramos and fell to his knees in a release of emotions.

The Table Tennis prodigy will now shift attention to preparation and participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador, El Salvador, from June 23.
