Guyana Restaurant Week (GRW) returns to offer diners specially designed menus at a special price.

This the 16th season of Restaurant Week runs from June 23 to July 2.

The highly anticipated event was launched on Monday at the Bistro Café and Bar, Middle and Waterloo Streets, Georgetown by the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA), sponsors and participating restaurants.

At the event, the President of THAG, Omodelle George, better known as Dee George, made a special appeal to the public to go out and support the country’s gastronomic delights. She said the hospitality industry has proven its resilience and strength over the past years and professionals have continued to provide exceptional service.

“It is an opportunity for talented chefs and restaurant owners and mixologists to showcase their creative passion and the true essence of Guyanese cuisine with foods that pay homage to our culture,” the THAG President said.

Local restaurants are encouraged to focus more on the unique culinary experience Guyana has to offer the world. This year, a special effort is being made to ensure that the cuisines on offer represent the foods grown locally to really promote the Guyanese experience.

Since the launch of GRW in 2014, participating restaurants have relied on the turnout of persons who give feedback on their experience at each place. It is a major competition between them for the level of service and creativity of the menus.

“Some of the general remarks that have been forthcoming from persons on what would be most welcomed is more diversity into the menus,” said GTA Director Kamrul Baksh.

George encouraged persons to take advantage of the efforts of restaurants to add that variety.

“I encourage everyone to fully immerse themselves in the flavours, [and] aromas GRW has to offer.

“Discover the new gems, the hidden gems, savour the fusion of cultures on your plate and allow your taste buds to embark on a journey of culinary exploration,” George said.

She further encouraged the restaurants to forge stronger partnerships and challenge them to showcase Guyana as a premiere culinary destination.
