Pedal cyclist dies in Hydronie accident

A 45-year-old pedal cyclist succumbed at the Leonora Cottage Hospital on Tuesday, hours after he was struck down on the Hydronie Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

The dead man has been identified as Lloyd Garraway of Lot 1801 Parika, EBE.

Garraway was allegedly struck down by a speeding motor car, bearing registration number PAD 3432.

The incident occurred around 02:40hrs Monday. Garraway succumbed to his injuries around 09:50hrs Tuesday whilst receiving medical attention at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.

The driver, who has been identified by the Police as 21-year-old David Simon Isaacs of Peter Street, Parika, EBE, is said to be assisting with the investigation.

Police Headquarters said the car collided with Garraway who allegedly rode across the road in his path.

At the time, Police said the driver was speeding.

Garraway fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about his body.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition and transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was admitted as a patient until his demise.

Police said the driver was subject to a breathalyser test but no trace of alcohol was detected.

Garraway body is at the Ezekiel Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
