Man slapped with five charges after incident with Police Officer
A 38-year-old resident of Region One (Barima-Waini) who was arrested on Sunday for the illegal possession of narcotics was charged with a series of offences, the majority of which stemmed from his alleged misbehavior while being taken into custody.
Police Headquarters reported that Joel DePeazer of Port Kaituma Water Front, North West District, appeared via Zoom at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The charges were read to him by Principal Magistrate, Faith McGusty.
DePeazer pleaded guilty to the possession of narcotics charge and was sentenced to eight hours of community service.
The four other charges were disorderly behaviour, threatening language, assaulting a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.
DePeazer denied these allegations and was granted bail in the sum of $40,000 on each charge. The matters were adjourned to August 21 for statements.
